Dr. Chooi Lee qualified as a doctor in 1991 at the University of Leicester, and trained as a geriatrician at St. George’s hospital and the South West Thames region.
She has been a consultant physician in general medicine and geriatric medicine at Kingston hospital since 2000. She has sub-specialised in community geriatrics, stroke care, and currently specialises in ortho-geriatrics. She is the hospital clinical lead for falls prevention and bone health, dementia and delirium, and ‘whole system’ integrated care for frail elderly people. She is the lead for the National Hip Fracture Database, National Audit of Falls and Bone Health, and National Audit of Dementia. She has been the Clinical Lecturer in Geriatric Medicine at St. George’s Medical School, and the Foundation Programme Training Director at Kingston Hospital. She won the 'Best Undergraduate Tutor' award from St. George's University of London in 2011, and the Kingston Hospital 'Teacher of the Year' in 2010.
She is currently the Trust’s Faculty Careers Lead. Research includes publications in collaborative Operational Research. In her youth, she was a competitive swimmer at national level in Canada for twelve years and qualified as a member of numerous British Columbia provincial swimming teams.
She was the Surrey County Masters sprint swimming champion in 2002. She now 'keeps fit' by running and swimming only occasionally. She is married to a triathlete, Mark, who competes regularly in Ironman competitions. They live in Surrey with 3 children and 2 cats.
