Dr. Israa Al-Shakarchi graduated in Medicine from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 2004, having previously gained an Upper Second Class BSc (Hons) degree in Physiology from University College London in 1998. She went on to be awarded a Masters in Rheumatology with distinction from Kings College London, winning the MSc prize for the best research project in 2010. She gained the Royal College of Physicians Specialty Certificate Examination in Rheumatology later the same year. She has presented clinical work at numerous conferences both nationally and internationally. Dr Al-Shakarchi was appointed as a Rheumatology Consultant at Kingston Hospital in August 2014, having been trained in both Rheumatology and General Internal Medicine in the South London Deanery. She has a broad range of experience in rheumatology including inflammatory arthritis, connective tissue diseases, vasculitidies, inflammatory myopathies, osteoporosis and soft tissue rheumatological conditions. Dr Al-Shakarchi has a strong commitment to medical education and has completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education at the Royal College of Physicians. She has received several teaching excellence awards, and is currently the College Tutor for the Core Medical Trainees at Kingston Hospital and is the hospital representative for Royal College of Physicians.
